Why don't dynamics have a "play" checkbox?
I'm studying someone else's score, and the indicated dynamics are a nuisance (esp. "pp"!); I'd like to turn them all off, recoverably, without deleting them.

Inspector, set velocity to eg. 50 should work.

Inspector, set velocity to 0 to restore.

Not exactly: set them to 0 and disable “follow tempo text” to turn them off.
Won’t be restorable if the original author made adjustments, either way. Best to keep a copy or use version control on the MSCX file then.

“follow tempo text” for dynamics???

Erm, the other thing, where it takes the velocity from the text, you know what I mean… looks oh, that’s not actually an option. Huh. Either that changed or I misremembered.

Thanks, indeed I see. In that case, sorry for the noise, and I better go to bed.

its ok mirabilos. happy valentines
So it sounds like a real "play" checkbox is needed.
Can you not delete all dynamics and then, after listening, restore with Ctrl Z or 'undo' on the toolbar?

I said "studying it", including possible modification. If I were "just listening", I wouldn't want to do this.

If you are 'studying' without 'listening' , then why would dynamics come into play at all?
Anyway, "possible modification" was not mentioned in your original post; but you can 'listen' to the score to 'study' it, make modification(s) and still undo the modifications.

I don't think critique of my workflow is useful here. I felt this need, and not because of ignorance of features. Why isn't that sufficient?

'Undo' is simple enough to use. One can save the score with "good" modifications and continue working, with 'undo' still available for saved modifications as well as any future modifications.
When finished with all the modifications, and the score is saved and closed, it is then that the modifications can no longer be undone..
(Trying to understand an individual use case is not critique... we try to help.)

All right, the sum of these is not unreasonable.
