Alt++
In the list of shortcuts, it says:
Add tied note to chord Alt++
It sounds like it allows you to tie a single note to the existing chord, but it looks like the results are the same as pressing + or clicking the corresponding button on the note entry toolbar. Does anyone know why Alt++ exists?

I think, it means add tied note(s) to the following chord (if there already notes exist), it doesn't replace the chord (as with "+").

I see. It does work differently if there is a note afterwards. I've never used or noticed the shortcut before.
It's relatively new - see #278752: New shortcut to add tied notes to a previously tied chord
