rest duration
how do you change the duration of a rest when entering notes/rests? hitting a number key after selecting rests just goes back to notes.

Well, that enters a rest of the duration selected before
So, the be clear: rests are entered exactly like notes: first you select the duration, then you enter the note or rest. By typing a letter for a note or "0" for rest if you want to do it fast, by clicking for a note or right-clicking for a rest if you want to take the scenic route, or by duration then the rest icon then clicking in the score if you are stalling on purpose :-)
