when i play the note middle c on the staff the keyboard shows c4 i thought it should show c3,can one adjust this

No, you can't, and you don't need to: middle C is C4.
In all fairness, there are different numbers assigned to the various notes. C4 is the most common designation of middle C in western music, so this is what MuseScore uses and it cannot be adjusted.
