How do you do this?
When I try to attempt this in musescore, it just recognizes the two staves as two separate entities. I have written the notes above to the treble clef. Is there a way to modify the treble clef so that the lower notes (middle C and below) will be in the bass clef, achieving the effect in the picture?

It seems you have two instruments with separated staves.
You need to chose only one instrument (a piano), which automatically has treble and bass clef interrelated each other.

Thanks for the reply! But it seems that there is only an instrument chosen.
Is this considered as not interrelated? Thanks in advance.

Thanks! However there is just one small problem.
Is there a better way to do this or do I need to colour the rest white / make it hidden?

You'd need to hide it. Or move it down a bit, after all the left hand has a rest
