dotted QUARTER note************

WHy would you want to do that? That makes no sense musically. Quarter notes can't be beamed - only eighths and smaller note values. Perhaps you really mean a dotted *eighth* note and a sixteenth? That would be the most common pairing. That combination should beam together automatically.
Soul finger arranged by Jay Dawson, baritone line. I've lost my part so I have to write down the part.

What makes you think it is a quarter note? I assume you are talking about this type of figure:
If so, that is a dotted eighth note, not a dotted quarter. Any note with a single beam (or single flag) coming out of it is by definition an eighth note. Quarter notes never have beams or flags.

it depends also of your time signature and where are the wanted beamed notes......... no ?
if there are on two different beats ....?
I think everyone knows but.....
I have a similar problem, but with a Eighth/16th rest/16th note figure. Essentially I want to "wrap" a beam across a sixteenth rest. Very much like a dotted eighth/sixteenth, but without the dot, and with a sixteenth rest in between.
Example: Happens a lot in Shostakovich 5, first movement, particularly the trumpet parts.

Doing this in finale is pretty easy (it does it by default on note entry). Musescore wants to beam the 16th with the *next* eighth note, like a pickup note to the next beat.
Using beam properties from the master palette has not helped so far.

Oh my. Thank you. I tried using beam properties on the notes themselves to "stretch" them across, but not that one on the actual rest. Appreciate the help.
