"speedy entry" similar to Finale
When using a midi keyboard input, the default process is similar to Sibelius where you press note duration and the note. Is there a way to make it similar to the Finale default of note then duration?
Thanks

Jojo,
I am new to this program so I apologize if I am just not seeing how to do this. All of the input modes show that it is duration then note. I would prefer note then duration. Am I just not seeing this instruction in your links?
thanks

If it helps, these are all available note input modes with MuseScore: https://musescore.org/en/handbook/note-input-modes

Those are the options available. duration after pitch is not amongst them, not directly, but indirectly via the realtime modi
There isn't anything exactly like it, but check out the Q and W commands to halve and double duration. Unfortunately not available as MIDI commands it seems.
Personally, I'd love this feature! Basically, it would be like a reversed version of the "insert" mode.
Having used Finale since the age of about 7 (I think), that particular workflow is hard to unlearn. It's very efficient, especially when writing chords (advanced chords specifically), so find the notes needed on the midi keyboard before inserting it at the right duration. Now, if you forget which chord/voicing you actually want, you have to exit input mode, find the chord, go back into note input mode and insert the notes - and then possibly rinse and repeat for every chord down the line... ;-)
Another point is that if you're less of a pianist (like me), your bound to hit some wrong notes, and there is a lot of un-doing. The finale way is good for this, because of my previous points on workflow. :-)

I agree. It allows me to use my ears before having notes show up on the page. I'm brand new to MuseScore. This note input feature alone could make it worthwhile for me to build my score in finale. I just wish there was a way to copy and paste into musescore because all the engraving elements are nicer on musescore.

You can check this out
https://musescore.org/en/project/duration-editor
Duration Editor is an plugin for MuseScore that allows to change the notes entry paradigm of MuseScore – being rhythm first, melody second – into Melody first, rhythm second.
No idea if this could help.
I don't think it's ported to MS4 either.

I used Finale roughly 2006 - 2016, stayed on the upgrade path. It became quirky & required more Tech Support tickets. I got completely fed-up with the incessant $$ for upgrades, and ended up with MuseScore. Now... MS has its warts. MS3 is 98% reliable and fast. I've ADAPTED - generally - to the way MS operates. With respect, you're not going to be able to alter MuseScore to be exactly what you want. Since you're here posting, there must be something about MS that brings you here. Pickup trucks, and tractor-trailer semi's both move items from point A to B. But neither can be made to be the other. :)
