Musescore keeps crashing when trying to save
Downloaded the latest Musescore and it keeps crashing when I try to save. Is it because I have to buy it for it to save?

MuseScore is always free. You never have to pay for anything.
What operating system are you using? Try to use Help->Revert to factory settings to see if it fixes your problem.

Windows 64 bit OS. Tried the factory resetting. Still crashes when trying to save any file. IT initially opens up to the file save box and then 2 seconds and the program crashes.

Try toggling the "ui/application/useNativeDialogs" option in Edit / Preferences / Advanced and see if that helps.

What do you mean toggling the UI? The box is checked.

In Edit->Preferences in the advanced tab the option Shoichi mentioned exists. Try changing that setting to see if that fixes it.

Shoichi is awesome. He's the one who came up with the idea.

Any special characters in the filename?
That fix/workaround is known to be needed at times for Linux (where thar setting even was the default for a long time), but so far never for Windows.

I have the same issue - any time I try to open a file (or save a file), it closes unexpectedly. It seems to be a glitch with the "file" dialog box. The crash happens shortly after the "file" box appears. It happens every time.
I'm using version 4.1.0.231921402, rev 2e3a93a with Windows 10 Pro, version 22H2.
I had the same issue with version 3.6.2. In 3.6.2, was able to fix the problem by going to Edit>Preferences>Advanced and toggling ui/application/useNativeDialogs. I can't see how to toggle this setting in 4.1.0.
Does anyone have a suggestion or idea that I can try? I've gone back to 3.6.2 because I can't save my work or open a file.
Thanks for your help.

That setting doesn't exist in Mu4.
Maybe give 4.1.1 a try?
If it still doesn't work, report this on GitHub

Good suggestion, I didn't know there was a newer version, I just uninstalled 4.1.0 and installed 4.1.1. Unfortunately, it still crashes as soon as the "file" dialog box opens.
