Setting the split note when importing MIDI file

Is there a way to set the split point when importing MIDI file (and setting the 'Split Staff' checkbox)?

No, but yes.
Don't split the staff during import (which indeed is some fancy "playability" algorithm). Once imported on a single staff, right-click it (Ctrl+Click on Mac) and choose "Split Staff..." for which you can then specify the split point.
