Just to be clear, you can open MuseScore and load a score. When does it crash? Are the play controls "grayed out?

Thank you. In the meantime I tested, firstly, an older musescore version 2 which I did not delete and played well one score (with an appropriate .2 file version).
Then I turned back to test version 3.6.1 and something new happened:
1) I clicked the play icon (the "triangle" on the top bar command line) and, as previously, the score did not run (answering to your question, the play icon and the pallete on the left both turned gray); however, a permanent sound (a noise, sort of a whistle);
2) then I insisted a couple of times, by clicking on & off the play command and, finally, the score was played, but the sound was joined by some incidental "dirt" noise, similar the the ones we hear when there's some sort of malfunction/ poor contact with the speakers.
That is the status so far. It runs the score, but the music does not play "clean".
I tried to attach a file I recorded to show the result, but the file "extension" (.m4a) is not allowed within this platform. I can email it, if needed.
Regards,
Thank you a lot,
Joao

Note: above where I wrote "however, a permanent sound (a noise, sort of a whistle)" I intended to say "however, it produced a permanent sound (a noise, sort of a whistle)" (sorry for my English).
Title and body contradict one another, does it crash or freeze or 'just' don't play back?
If it crashes: reboot, reinstall (repair)
In reply to Title and body contradict… by Jojo-Schmitz
It did not play back, and only was frozen only after trying to play; but the situation evolved, please see my reply above in another thread. Thank you for your help!

See: https://musescore.org/en/faq#faq-301733
It happened again, after reloading the program again. The score did not play (see file #1 ); and when I tried to close rhe project in order to choose another file, the program blocked that action (file #2). I had to shut down the program. I cannot pplay any score. Should I try to reinstal an older version?
Thanks for any help,
Joao

Have you tried re-starting your computer?
or
MuseScore revert to factory settings?
https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/revert-factory-settings
In reply to Have you tried re-starting… by Jm6stringer
Yes, I restarted the computer several times. But no, not yet, I did not revert to factory settings. I will try it, even though I read that I will lose personal choices made on palletes and other settings. I will post the result. Thank you!

HI, I decided to revert to factory settings and now it worked !! GOOD NEWS!.
I can play my scores. I did not check in full but at least the basics are working.
Thank you for the tip,
Joao

Reboot, download MuseScore 3.6.1 from https://musescore.org/download, (re(install(/repair) without having started MuseScore.
APPARENTLY SOLVED THROUGH "REVERT TO FACTORY SETTINGS" OPTION ON THE "HELP" SECTION
