Musescore 3.6.2 Resizes Undocked Mixer/Inspector Windows Between Sessions That Are Closed When the Session Ends
I previously submitted a suggestion regarding this in the Issue Tracker ( #317344 –Mixer Uses Default Configuration For Each Session). The only response I got was from Mr. Sabatella who was not able to duplicate the behavior I was experiencing. Since there was no resolution, his suggestion was to make a post in the forum hoping to seek help, or even acknowledgement that others are experiencing the same behavior, from a wider audience.
The current pertinent hardware/software configuration of my machine is:
Hardware
HP Notebook 17z-ca100
AMD Ryzen 5 3500U Mobile Processor with Radeon Vega 8 Graphics
9.92 GB usable RAM out of 12 GB Installed
17” Full HD (1920 x 1080 resolution) Display
Software
64 bit Windows 10 Home, Version 2004
MuseScore-3.5.2.311459983-x86_64.msi
MuseScore-3.6.2.548021803-x86_64.msi
My laptop is only about 1 year old and the processor was launched Q1 2019 which makes the hardware relatively recent. Other than choosing to run one “feature” version of Windows behind the current version, I don’t interfere with Windows Update keeping my OS software up to date.
While the following procedure employs the Mixer window to show the behavior, I have found the Inspector window exhibits similar behavior under the same circumstances.
The procedure I use to investigate the behavior of interest and used in producing the results which follow is:
- Start Musescore
- Open a score
- Open Mixer
- Undock mixer if docked
- Adjust Mixer window position and dimensions as desired
(In examples below, “Session 1” screenshot taken here)
- Close Mixer
-
End Musescore
-
Restart Musescore
- Open previous score
- Open Mixer
(In examples below, “Session 2” screenshot taken here)
- Close Mixer
- End Musescore
I have followed this procedure on my machine using both Musescore 3.5.2 and Musescore 3.6.2 with the following results noted upon session change:
Musescore 3.5.2
Regardless of the undocked Mixer window position and dimensions prior to the session change (Attached image: Session 1 - 3.5.2), in the next session, the resultant Mixer window (Attached image: Session 2 – 3.5.2) retains the same dimensions it had when it was closed in the previous session but is always positioned in the center of the screen.
Musescore 3.6.2
Regardless of the undocked Mixer window position and dimensions prior to the session change (Attached image: Session 1 – 3.6.2), in the next session, the resultant Mixer window (Attached image: Session 2 – 3.6.2) is in the same position it had when it was closed in the previous session but the window has been resized to some “default”(?) dimensions.
Note: Mr Sabatella’s experience was that, after the session change, the resultant Mixer window is in the same position and has the same dimensions it had when it was closed in the previous session.
This leaves me with two questions:
1. Why, on my machine, does 3.6.2 behave differently than 3.5.2 in this area, and
2. Why, apparently, do not the behavior differences in 3.6.2 occur in other installations?
Any help in resolving these questions would be greatly appreciated.
