Tried both, the fretboard diagram and the chord name above. Same result.

In order to understand and assist, we would need you to attach your score and precise steps to reproduce the problem. In general it should work as described in the current version of MuseScore.

Updated to 3.6.2.548021803. Tried Cntrl/Shift as before. Drug modified chord diagram to the chord palette, but I get only the chord name G/A no diagram.

Make sure to drag the actual fretboard itself, and not the chord name above it.
