MuseScore never ever deletes any of your scores. Those are still at the same place you stored them.
MuseScore doesn't have any functionality built in to delete files

Unfortunately it’s all gone. I don’t understand and very disappointed

No, is's surely not gone. It is just in a different place as MuseScore expects them to be in its factory settings.
Search your disk for "*.mscz"

Thank you this just saved me as well!!
What is reset is the list of your recently opened files; however MuseScore files are just files on your PC and MuseScore itself does not delete those.
By default scores are saved within your documents folder: documents/MuseScore3/Scores/ so that would be the best place to start looking. Either using File > Open or using the file browser from your operating system.
If you've saved them in a different location, then as Jojo mentioned, try to remember that location and/or issue a search for "*.mscz" (the default musescore file format) in your file browser.
