Pitch Bends

• Oct 10, 2022 - 11:39

How can I achieve this effect at the end of this note in musescore using pitch bends.
The problem here is that I cannot down bend from my original note.

Yep thought of that. Tested it too.
Let me elaborate.
This note is an E4, and has a count of 3 (equivalent to a dotted half note).
Now since this bend is happening at the very end of the note, I used a D#4 half note, and tied it with a D#4 quarter note, and then applied a pre bend on the half note to make it a E4. For the quarter note, first 3 quarters is the same prebend, but in the fourth quarter added the actual bend.

I have added the pictures to give you an idea of what exactly I have done.

Now the problem is that, the quarter note alone sounds fine, but when tie with the half note, the bend at the end doesn't occur. It just continues to be an E4 note all along.

That symbol; is only meaningful for guitar - it's not used in any other context. And that's why it only supports upward bends - guitars are incapable of downward bends. Instead, you should be using a glissando or fall - those are the symbols understood by non-guitarists. The fall currently does not support playback but will in MuseScore 4. Arpeggios meanwhile work fine.

Again, we still cannot publish scores using Musescore 4 right?
And if I install it, will the 3.6.2 version will get updated, or it will remain as a different app from the Musescore ver 4?
And no, I need to do the tie since these bends since they happen literally in the last quarter of a quarter note. You can see the pics what I mean.

A tied note is considered a single note, which also means your bend instruction only is processed at the start of that note (so your second bend does nothing at all).

But given that you're sample is showing some (vibrato) organ sound the effect you're hearing could just as well be actual keypresses in an ornament. In which case I'd use "grace note after" to notate it and the PRE (or one of the articulation plugins) to adjust on/off-times to an approximation.

Sorry but I still cannot get the desired effect. Tried your method too.
I tried using glisssando, but Musescore implementation of gliss is weird. Usually when you gliss, the note will slide to the next note, but the notes won't play. With Musescore's implementation, it actually plays.
Any idea how can I get the "vibrato" effect? I also tried the vibrato from the articulations menu, and it does absolutely nothing.

You are going in the wrong direction.
Even the midi player I am using is using the same soundfont. But for that vibrato effect, it is simply using midi pitch bend. That's what I am asking about. Pitch Bends.
Is there anything that can be done to do this, since I am not very familiar with Musescore and am still very new to it.

So again, talking about the same issue, but this time I found something out more weird. I think its a bug.

The same setup, but since I was proceeding with the song, I had added more notes.
The weird thing is that when you play the tied note, the pitch doesn't change from E4.
But in the next measure, on the third count (from where the half note is beginning; the note which has been marked in blue) the bend actually plays, even though no pitch bend has been applied on that note. And it happens for a whole count (i.e. till the first half of the half note has been played.)
I know Musescore 3.6.2 won't be receiving any updates, but I thought its still worth mentioning this.

Again, placing the bend on the 2nd part of a tied note does not what you think it does in MuseScore. The bend instruction is taken from the first note in the chain (see also the first bar in my example, which does use the bend instead of the grace-note after).
But no, you don't get more control over the bend timing than the available grid.
