update message at startup

I get a message that there is an update available every time I start Musescore. Is there any way to turn this off? I tried to update but it says my system is too old to run the new version. I have upgraded my OS as far as it will go with this 2008 Mac. I am already sad that I can't upgrade. That message rubs salt into the wound every time I see it.
