Triplets of already written notes?

There is no option of making triplets out of already written notes... I have 3 eight notes on the beginning of a bar and I want to make them into triplets. When I try to select those 3 notes and click triplets it just deletes it and it makes me type notes again. Why cant you just select (in this case 3 eight notes) and make them triplet?
