Playback always starts from bar 1

Running MuseScore 3.6.2 on Mac OS 11.7. New behavior started just today: new symbols have appeared on the score, at the beginning and at the end. Long vertical lines with a flag-like thing at the top. Triangle pointing right at the beginning and pointing left at the end. Playback starts there rather than on a selected note (which had been the behavior before today). How to remove these flags?
