Musescore 4 unusably laggy under certain conditions

I was never able to use Musescore 4 when it came out due to unusable lag, however I saw a forum post saying having the mixer open fixes the issue, and it has for some reason. The mixer being open halves the amount of space I have though, and floating it causes the lag to come back, so I don't think this is a good permanent solution.

I've also noticed that if I unplug my audio interface (Focusrite Scarlett Solo) and plug my headphones directly into my computer, it works relatively fine as well, but again this is very tedious.

My specs should be enough for Musescore 4 (AMD FX - 8350 Eight-Core, 24gb DDR3 Ram, 870 EVO SSD), and task manager doesn't show anything struggling to run Musescore.

Also, changing the buffer size on both Musescore and/or my interface don't seem to make a difference.

Given all of this, if anyone knows what might be going on I would greatly appreciate some insight.
