Disabled repeat on playback does not work properly
In the attached example playback works as expected with the playback repeat enabled but if playback repeat is disabled the playback still plays the first time bar before carrying on. Is this the way it works or am I doing something wrong? How do I get payback to skip the first time bar with playback repeat disabled? Thanks. (This is in MS3 but it's the same in MS4)

In both MuseScore 3.6.2 and 4.2.1, your example is played as it should be (with "Play repeats" enabled or disabled).
Volta's are ignored when "Play repeats" is disabled.

Thank you for your swift reply. So if I understand you correctly it is not possible to play back as written with 'play repeats' disabled. In rehearsal if our quartet plays a piece without repeats, as we do frequently, then we obviously skip all the Volta 1s before repeat signs and go straight to the Volta 2s. So this is not possible to do in Musescore?

No, that is not possible.
You may start at the last note of the volta 1 but this note is also played then.
Disable 'play repeats' may be useful if you check your score. I think your exercise variant is somewhat special and should only be used in rehearsal after consultation. You could imagine many variations, but none of them have anything to do with the normal course of the piece.

When it comes to playback, you can do the following.
Make a copy of your score.
Delete the bars, which should not be played.
Make an MP3 of this score.
