loading files
Why won't Musecore load the file I'm selecting? It's a MIDI file? I see it in the folder I've chosen on my laptop, but Musecore apparently does not see it.

Are you searching with the MuseScore menu option File > Open > Filename (All supported Files) ?
Is the file suffix of the MIDI file correct?
MuseScore can open files with a suffix of :
.mid.midi
.kar
If the suffix matches one of those but the file does not open, then your MIDI file is probably corrupt. You might expect a failure message like this:
