Line Breaks do not seem to work

I am new to the software and to try it out I wanted to create a page of scales. Each line on the page has a different keys. When I place the key in the measure it appears on the next line but also appears at the end of the current line. I have tried to put a line break in to make this disappear but nothing happens (see attached image). Does anyone know what is going on?
