Shortcuts for earlier versions

• Jun 9, 2015 - 16:48

I cannot use Musescore 2.0 until I unlearn all of the shortcuts I learned for earlier versions. I don't have time so I guess I'll have to stay with the old version. Why in the world would so many change or disappear all together. For example:
It was so easy to use "L" to bring up the dynamics palette. Why in the world would that go away in 2.0?
There are great new features but I just don't see the use of cutting out features of previous versions. sad...

Thanks, Zack. Not much better than pinning the master palette. It just adds some extra mouse clicks over the old version. The hardest thing for me right now is unlearning the old shortcuts. I got so used to them that I go to them automatically. Old dog. New tricks. You know the story.
Thanks again.

Actually, there are not that many shortcuts that changed. I suspect you are simoply being overhwlemed by the sheer number of new features that it is taking a while to adjust, but I assure you it will be worth it! Feel free to list which shortcuts you are missing, and we can help you find their replacements - or show you how to restore the ones you are accustomed to (shortcuts are completely customizable).

Rest assured that changes were never made for no reason. In some cases, for example, the change was made because the defaults simply didn't work on certain keyboards and needed to be changed to something that was less dependent on OS/keyboard. In other cases, it is because the new features needed shortcuts too, and there are a finite number of shortcuts available, so sometimes an improtant and often-used new feature needed to "steal" a shortcut from a less importand, less often used old feature.

The special version of the dynamics palette that appeared when you pressed "L" was an anomaly. It was odd in that it didn't exist anywhere but there - it didn't correspond to the actual Dynamics palette. The same was true for the time signature and key signature palettes. Those were moved to the new Master Palette, which is an important new feature as it facilitates uses of the new customizable palettes. The dynamic markings that were previously found on the "L" palette and nowhere else indeed no longer have a home, but if you miss them, the new customziable palettes allow you to add them to your own palettes easily.
