Half notes cross bars

Dear people of the forum,

Is there a way to have half notes cross bars? for example, if there's only space for one
quarter note left in the first bar, the half note gets devided into two
connected quarter notes. I would really like to create scores that have the
half note cross the bar, leaving three notes left in the second bar, instead
of two quarter notes, one to the left of the bar line and one to the right.
is this possible and (in that case) haven't I discovered how it's done in
Musescore?
