There is no tick box in any style menu for this, no idea where you get that idea from?
There's a tick box in Inspector, and there are settings in Preferences.

Are you certain? There's a Play check box to toggle chord playback under the Chord Symbols entry in the Style menu.

Ah, yes, there is. Even mentioned by the handbook page that FAQ links to ;-)
Actually that's the one set when switiching it off in Inspector and then setting that as the SStyle, via the Inspector's S button. So yes, there's such a style setting, but getting is set is possible much easier via Inspector.

The check box in the style dialog was missing in the original 3.5.0 release but added some time after that, I forget when.

It might have been added as late as 3.6, due to it adding a translatable string?
Edit: Nah, 3.5.2 has it already
