Convert standard notation to mandolin tab
Is there a way to convert standard notation to mandolin tab? I know that in the original version of muse, I was able to do that. I don't see where that feature is available with this version.

This works, but but at added "expense." Mostly importantly—before removing the standard staff—if you've entered new notes standard staff (or edit them) you have to remember to copy and paste those changes to the tablature staff; and the tablature staff reverts to default fret numbers, meaning that your string assignments will be lost and you'll have to drag notes to the correct strings again.
If you plan to do further editing or note entry it might be simpler to do all your editing in a pair of linked staves: i.e a mandolin standard notation linked to mandolin tablature staff. Any notational edits make in one linked stave will instantly update the other linked staff. Later, if you don't want the standard staff in tow, you can copy/paste to a separate Mandolin tab-only document. (Sadly we can't yet create tab-only parts, nor can we hide either of the linked staves independently, though the idea has been acknowledged a valuable option.
Instructions for creating linked Mandolin staff in MuseScore 3 (as opposed to adding an independent mandolin staff):
1) make sure your mandolin score stave is set to MuseScore's Mandolin instrument:
i.e. you have the following property for the staff: Staff/Part>Instrument = Mandolin
2) press i to open the Instrument panel
3) enter "Mandolin" in the search field (mandolin is available but does not appear in the default list)
4) select the indented Staff 1 line "within" the Mandolin instrument. (This enables the Add Linked Staff button.)
5) Click the Add Linked Staff button
6) BEFORE leaving the dialog, in the Staff Type column, click the default Standard menu item
6b) choose Tab. 4-str. (Simple, Common or Full)
7) close the dialog and enjoy your linked staves configuration
If you skipped ... if you skipped step 6b) the linked staff will show standard notation! If so, you can select the linked staff to display as a tablature staff as described in Steps 4 and 5. (See NOTE below.)
Now, when you add or edit notation in the standard staff, Musescore will update the tablature staff, or visa versa.
NOTE: Simple, Common or Full are simply collections of styles imparted to the tablature staff.
You can find most the individual tablature staff settings in the Staff/Part>Instrument>Advanced Style Properties where the various properties are almost entirely about tablature.

Where do I find a mandolin tab staff?

In the add instruments dialog, press I, search for Mandlin

You actually press 'I' to get to the "add instrument" dialog. There you search for "Mandolin" in the search box.

You are right, but what you wrote could also be read as "first open the instrument dialog, then press 'I' ".
By the way, how do you get the nice "button" around the 'I' ?

In version 4.4.4, when I create a linked clef to an existing mandolin staff and set it to Tab 4 string, all the notes are on the e string in the tablature. Has anyone encountered this problem?

I've just tried this by creating a new score (4.4.4, Win10). Everything is normal here.
As the causes can be various (imported file, format, clef, string pitch setting etc.), please attach your score to receive an appropriate help.

I used an existing score, and my machine is Ubuntu latest version. I should have said that almost all notes are on the E string, as you will notice a few exceptions. I don't play mandolin, but it seems to me that more of the strings should be involved. The same result was produced with another existing score.

Thank you for attaching the score.
Mandolin is: G3/D4/A4/E5.
All that remains is to link a TAB staff, and you'll get the expected result.

Brilliant. That seems to have fixed the problem.
On another matter, is there a reason why 4.4.4 Appimage should lag terribly? Earlier versions were much more responsive and easier to use.
