copying a renaissance score
I want to copy a renaissance score which has the traditional "diamond" head notes. How do I do this in Musescore?

Alternate noteheads can be found in the Noteheads palette, or you can add them as symbols.

Thankyou but I think my nightmares might become real: it looks from what you say that I would have to enter a whole score using "tadpole" notes and then go back and alter everyone individually. Also by just trying to change the noteheads, the stalks are off centre. Using Mediaeval and Rensaissance Individual Notes would give a better result but again painfuly slow. Is there no way of deciding what shape of notes are wanted before entering a score?

No need to do every note individually, just wait until you are done, then right-click one, Select / All Similar Elements, and use either method to change them all at once.
There are different types of diamond notes used, so be sure to choose the one most appropriate. If the stems still need adjusting, use the same method to select and modify them all at once too.
If you attach your score and an image of the edition you are trying to emulate, we can understand and assist better.

Dear Marc:
Thank you for your advice and generous offer of help, which I gladly accept!
A attach a copy of the piece I would like to imitate as closely as possible, and also my score as it is at present.

Are you going to keep it separate staves like this? It's somewhat more complicated than if it were multiple voices on one staff, because the specifics offsets needed to align the notehead & stem will different for upstem vs downstem notes. With multiple voices, you'd known voice 1 = upstem, and you can easily select all voice 1 stems with Select / More. But assuming you figure out how to select all upstem notes, apply 0.5 sp horizontal offset to the notehead, 0.5 sp vertical to the stem. Then in the opposite direction for downstem notes.
Probably a plugin could be written to automate this better. Or maybe someone else can think of another clever workaround.
