sound not changing w instru change
I got score from Musescore "lib/site". It played as piano as expected.
I change instru to acoustic guitar (via staff part prop) and shifted notes one
octave (via staff part prop). Result attached.
It still plays as piano, I can't fig out why? F10 window says it is acoustic guitar.
I checked a blank guitar staff template that I use (created by me), it sounds fine as guitar.
Am on ver 3.6.2

If you mean that chord symbols play as piano, see:

The single notes also sound piano-ish to me, compared to a "fresh virgin score"
starting from scratch using the vb8 clef. And yes, the chord symb sound ever MORE
piano-ish.

Interesting link U sent re chord symbols.....
Got me to poking around, I find that my folders
1 templates
2 plugins
3 sound fonts
are all empty. In Musescore2, #s 1 & 3 are also empty.
Did I mess up on install?

If you're only checking your user folders, then no. If you're checking the program folders, then perhaps.

These are the folders you you would place any custom templates, plugins, or soudnfonts you have installed. It's normal those folders are empty if you didn't install any such customizations.
It does play as (Steel) Guitar. The chord symbols don't, they play a Pianon, but you can change that in Mixer.
Check the attached

Of course assuming OP has a General Midi compatible soundfont loaded at the top of his/her soundfont list (such as the default MuseScore_General)

Yes, it does play/sound different. How did ya do that? I do not see
any changes in "mixer" panel/window/pane/pain of what you sent vs
what I posted. Am I 1/2 blind or 1/2 dumb?
Am having some mini argus w Marc about "mixer" panel/window/pane/pain also. Maybe
I have something setup wrong?
If you go to View / Mixer and open up the channel strip for the Acoustic Guitart, you'll see there are a number of subchannels. The basic playback sound for the main subchannel is "Steel String Guitar". If you prefer a different type of guitar, simply change it there in the mixer. The chord symbol subchannel is set to Grant Piano, so change that as well if you like.

main subchannel "steel string"...I see and get it.
BUT
chord subchan, Grand Piano....I dont see anything like it in mixer window.

That's because you haven't yet done the first thing I mentioned - "open up the channel strip". You do that by clicking the arrow at the top of the strip (in the bottom half of the mixer).

well I have. I did not "snap" it/them. It does not show anything about "piano" or "chords" or "subchannels", all it shows is a history of all the instru sound experiments I have tried.
nothing in the "mix" panel/pane says/shows anything about "chords."
next?

See:
https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/playback-chord-symbols-nashville-nu…
and read the directions.
Under "Change playback sound" step #2 reads; "In the Track area locate the track for the part in question."
Can you do this?
Step #3 reads: "Click on the 'Show channels' arrow to display all the child tracks for that part."
Can you do this?
You need to open the channel tracks by clicking the arrow button on top of the track control.
See:
https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/mixer#track-area
and look at the picture of the expanded violin tracks. (They are colored pink in the image.)
Then continue with steps 4 and 5.

THX Jm6. It is after dinner, and after a few glasses of vino. I have a lesson tomorrow, and a jam on Thurs. It will take me that long to process your points.

The picture you show does not show the channel strip open, it shows it closed. If it were open, you'd see several vertical strips in the bottom half, each with its own slider, for the various subchannels, depending on what instrument you have used. The one to the far right is the chord symbol subchannel. And as you can see in my picture, it's currently set to Grand Piano in your score. Just change it to whatever you prefer.
