In the new musescore 4 I cant use the letter A - to create the note A -
some of the notes won't be played unless I write them in the score once again.

Make sure you are in the default note input mode. Not sure I understand the rest of your problem.

I am i default -but every time I write the note A - it doesn't work - the notation stops and the marker flips between 'home' - 'palettes' - 'name of the sheet'
There are other features in this new version which doesn't work as easily as before. I do not like this version - it slows me down ...
What is your keyboard layout?

Danish.. did not have any problems before ...
and A is at the same place ... as in English

The consoling news is "you're not alone"
For a Dutch user this seemed to get resolved by a Revert to Factory Settings from the Help menu. Would you be willing to try that out as well?

Then I'm at this point out of workaround ideas. Seems like you're experiencing a different bug at this point.
Is becoming Dutch an option?
