Can you go between Musescore 3 and 4? A case that went terribly wrong.
I wrote a piece in Musescore 4 and thought about putting it through Musescore 3 to compare the two. Once I tried viewing it in Musescore 3, the file was blanc and didn't interract. I tried seeing if it still worked in Musescore 4 - i didn't. It displayed the same blank page. It's not that the page didn't view; there was nothing on the score because when I tried to upload it, I got a notice that I should at least include one instument before uploading. I don't remeber if out of habit I saved the score in Musescore 3 or not, but I'm really distressed about losing so much work. If anyone has any advice on how to possibly restore the score or even explain what went wrong, I would be very grateful.

That is known and by design. The way down rev is via MusicXML

Hi, thank you. I'm still unsure as to how to do it. Do I need another programme, and if so, which one?

Export the file using type MusicXML. It is a function of MuseScore as exporting as PDF or audio file.

I tried doing that. Unfortunately, it seems that whatever happened when I put the score back in MuseScore 3, it deleted everything in the file, because even the MusicXML file is empty.

Indeed, if you saved the empty score in MuseScore 3, that would overwrite the good version you started with. So you'll need to find the backup and open that instead.
