I was not able to reproduce this issue. I was able to run Reaper v6.51 and Musescore 4 at the same time on Windows 10 with no issues, and even have them play back at the same time.
What OS are you using, what version of Reaper do you have, and what are your audio device settings in Reaper?
Reaper ver. 6.71, Windows 11Pro.
Musescore i/o Audio device System Default, Midi out No device, Midi input No Device
Reaper Audio System ASIO, Driver: ASIO4ALL v.2
Musescore does not open if Reaper is first opened.
If Musescore 4.0 is open, when Reaper opens Musescore closes.
Musescore 3.6.2.54082 does works perfectly with Reaper open. No issues with the older version.
I updated my version of Reaper to that version, and installed ASIO4ALL v.2. Neither seems to trigger the crash, so it might be related to Windows 11 (or something else we've overlooked). That's about the limit I can test this issue, unfortunately.
Same issue here, except I am on Windows 10. Also, this was not a problem when I first upgraded to 4.0. It started today as soon as I upgraded to 4.01. This is a deal-breaker for me also. I really hope you can fix it because I love MuseScore otherwise.
Count me as a "Three" then. I can't get Reaper and MuseScore to play nicely either, but it's always MuseScore that crashes, never Reaper. Windows 10, 64 Bit, Reaper 6.77, MuseScore 4.0.2. I couldn't get them to start at all for a while, then eventually I tried disabling all MIDI in MuseScore. That improved things in the sense that both lived for a while at the same time, but when playback started, then MuseScore crashed again (is this inconsistent in Windows due to the sound interface, ASIO, WASAPI or something?)
I also cannot seem to run reaper 6.80 and musescore 4.02 at the same time. Musescore consistently crashes. I have read the ASIO4ALL is NOT a multi-client driver. i think it's possible to use a 3rd party virtual mixer like Voicemeeter Banana or something to get this to work, but it's not at all intuitive and I join the frustrated at at least #4 to have had this issue.

Aok. Thanks. Win 11 is the future in the PC world. But what is it that Musescore 3.6 compatible and 4 not compatible with Reaper in Win 11?
