version 4.4 - slurs lost when "regroup rhythms"

• Dec 17, 2024 - 02:33

It took me a while to figure out when the slurs disappeared, but I'm pretty sure it's as a result of asking the system to regroup rhythms. In 4/4 time I had slurred together the quarter notes on beats one and two, also three and four. Upon regrouping rhythms, it seemed the back half of the measure was unaffected but the slurs disappeared when they started on beat one. There were no rests within the affected measures, just four quarter notes.

Just an fyi. I manually repaired the slurs and haven't lost them again, as long as I stay away from regrouping rhythms :).

Slurs disappear immediately or when you reopen the project?
If you think this is a problem and needs to be fixed, please attach the project file and describe step by step what needs to be done.

Are you perhaps confusing ties and slurs. Tied notes will be regrouped to equivalent single notes if that would conform to normal rhythmic groupings. Thus tied quarter notes on beats 1 and 2 will be replaced by a single half note. Slurred notes are not regrouped this way as each note would be articulated separately, indeed they are only rarely used to connect adjacent notes of the same pitch, unlike ties which are exclusively used to connect adjacent notes of the same pitch.

See the different behaviour of ties and slurs before and after applying the Regroup Rhythm in this picture.
