Grace notes assigned to a rest and Placement of flat sign

• Feb 13, 2025 - 14:48

Attached is an original pdf and a Musescore file I am working on (produced with Audevirus). I have 2 questions about measure 24.
1. Is there a way to assign grace notes to a rest? If not, is there a work around (I can make the first 2 notes 1/16th notes then have an 1/8th note rest and then make a triplet out of the last 1/4 rest, but that is not exact timing).
2. On the bass stave, the voice 2 half note F is placed before the voice 1 quarter note Eb. The flat sign is placed before the F making it look like it is really Fb. Is this just a convention I am not aware of? I inserted a natural sign in front of the F, but the flat sign still comes first. Is there a way to switch the order of the F and Eb?
Thanks,
Nick

The mscz file seems to have been last saved in 3.6.2. Is there any reason you are not using the current version 4.4.4?

  1. Perhaps the person whoever engraved the pdf was trying to add a final turn to the preceding trill and the grace notes should appear at the end of measure 23 rather than the start of measure 24 and similarly for all the other trills in that sequence. That would make more musical sense I think as there are no preceding grace notes for the first trill and putting them as grace notes after would keep the pattern consistent.
  2. You can change the order of the notes by adjusting the horizontal offset of the chord (rather than element) in the inspector. Or in 4.4.4 in the properties panel.
