reset beams anomaly

• May 1, 2025 - 12:50

I don't know if this is a bug or it's by design, but I can't get "reset beams" to work under certain, very infrequent circumstances. Attached is an example. The upper voice of the left-hand (this is a piano piece) is what's consistently and automatically generated through most of the movement and it's the way I like for the beaming to be...it seems to facilitate reading the music best for beaming to be by the quarter note value. But, ever so often it default to the beaming of the second measure in the attached example, beaming to the half note value. I've tried every application of "reset beams" on those notes in that second measure to get it to beam like the first measure in the example. This seems, most often, to happen with the right-hand is two half notes. Is there any way around this?

I'm a Finale transplant. There's so much I still don't know how to do in Musescore Studio. there's a lot of things it does I love, even with my meager understanding so far, but there's also things that just don't seem to work like I think they oughta LOL. You'll see tons of stuff I don't know how to do. As with any software, knowing even what term to search for in the manual is at least half the battle. Thanks for being willing to take a look.

Yes, I decided the best way to learn was to import a partially finished piece and do the last series of edits. It's kind of working. I working on pieces from scratch, too, but the learning curve inhibits the creative process. I'll get there eventually. The Cmd+A/reset beams changed everything to the "wrong" beaming, but at least everything is consistent. Thanks for the tip on the 4/4...I didn't notice that even. I may be your oldest Finale refugee (I'm 80), so every bit of help is much appreciated.
