Access Basso Continuo (Figured Bass)
Hello everyone,
I just tried to add figured bass to my piece. The tutorial (https://musescore.org/en/handbook/figured-bass) suggests Strg + G. Unfortunately this combination leads to nothing on my computer (maybe because I use Linux?). I tried to change the settings in Preferences, but cannot even find an entry for figured bass. Can anyone help me out, please?

Nothing to do with Linux (maybe except the window manager you're using), work's as expected on my system (selecting a note before and pressing strg+g). There's a search field in the tab of shortcuts, search for "figured" (the correct entry is "add figured bass").

Thank you for the quick reply, kuwitt! Unfortunately, it still doesn't work. I even uninstalled and reinstalled Musescore (1.3) , set the language to English (up to now it was German). But still - no "figured bass", no "add figured bass", no "search" function either - but I read through it line by line and couldn't find anything else. Any other ideas? Shouldn't the figured bass - window be part of the normal menu and be accessible somehow apart from the shortcut?

Figured Bass is a feature of 2.x, it is not in 1.3, so you should install 2.1 instead or (or in adition to) 1.3.

Thank you, Jojo-Schmitz! I guess that is the problem. I run Musescore on the Linux partition of my Dell - and there's no newer version it seems. I'll try to install it on Windows then for this. Anoying ... But thank you very much for your help!

Download and run the AppImage for Linux from the Download side:

Or update your Linux - pretty much all recent (past two years or so) distributions should have a 2.x version available I would think. But indeed, if not, the AppImage is a good option.

But still none of them will have 2.1 I think?

Depending of the distribution. To my knowledge not for Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, but indeed for OpenSuse and I believe (after a short google search) for PCLinuxOS and Gentoo there are available distributions packages for 2.1 too.

Thank you all very much for your helpful comments! I updated my Ubuntu Distribution from 14.04 to 16.04 this morning, and now the Muse Score version ist 2.0.2. and it includes the Figured Bass Feature (even in the German version).

Good to hear, and (as mentioned) if you want to use the latest version (2.1) with some new features and a lot of bug fixes, you can also use the AppImage of 2.1. Here its a video how to run it (it's for 2.0.3 but it's the same procedure for 2.1):
