Tie's with 1st and 2nd endings

• Dec 11, 2017 - 09:17

When the last note before the ending is tied to the first note inside the ending, it works fine for the 1st ending, but on 2nd ending there is no tie, and the playback also play to seperate notes.

Any Ideas how to fix this?

Indeed, that's what I did.
But I am not agree when you say the grace note methode seems easier to handle. It's the opposite. We must add the grace notes, ties, uncheck the playback, and then the invisibility - partial, if not complete - for each element (notehead, stem, unless return to the inspector to remove the stem!). And in this file, it is necessary to renew all four times! This is a few manipulations.
With the method of the previous note of the same pitch, just add the tie, and edit (with Ctrl + arrow, it'is done easily and quickly), that's all or almost. You only have to add leading space before the first note of the second ending.
Ties, it's true, sometimes has a significant influence on the layout. But in this case, we are talking about four added ties. And I have not seen any particular impact here. But it's a point to consider, I agree.
There are, however, cases where it does not work. Perhaps others, but eg, if the tied note is already tied with the same previously note (this can happen). So, this case, we avoid! :)
But with a little habit, the most appropriate way will be quickly spotted.

Indeed, it's a case of habit ;-).

Alternative a similar workaround to your suggestion (if not the same ;) I can imagine this should work:

  • select the chord of the tied notes in the first ending
  • add a tie
  • select the tie via double click and select the first handle
  • move it via ctrl+shift+arrow right to the right position
  • if necessary do this steps again for the last handle for the tie (or vice versa (first the last handle and then the first handle))

Forget my method. After a little bit more investigation there are in my opinion to much possibilities of glitches. For example open the attached file above. Select the C of beat two in measure seven in the treble clef and use the key arrow up or down to move that note.
After that I think at time the workaround with grace notes will contain less glitches.
