To be able to export parts, you must, first, create these parts via: File -> Parts
This done, "Export Parts" will be active.

period after the mscz? Not comma (and period in front of the name)? If the latter you're looking at a backup file, the previous version of your score

I am having the same problem with a score. I added a part (the Electric Guitar) to the score, where the Parts dialog worked normally. Once I finished with that, I noticed Export Parts was grayed out. When I pull up the Parts dialog it also appears to have broken (you no longer see the parts list at the left and everything seems grayed). I have a feeling my score is corrupted, which would be a total bummer! See attached score. I am using v2.2.1 on a Mac.

I did exactly as described in the handbook, except that I started with the jazz template and added parts using the parts dialog (adding more trumpets, trombones, etc). I added the electric guitar part today using the parts dialog. And then it seems to have broken. I have scored probably 30 charts this way, so this is new behavior for me.

@mjzwick... it's the (necessarily strict) nomenclature which can cause confusion.

If you modified a jazz template (Jazz Lead Sheet or Big Band or Jazz Combo) to modify the instrument setup, you use what's called the 'Instruments' dialog.... not the 'Parts' dialog.
See:
https://musescore.org/en/handbook/create-new-score#change-Instrument-se…

Once you have your score set up with the proper instrumentation, you then have to use the 'Parts' dialog to generate those individual tabs for the parts. (Mainly so you can print out individual parts.)
See:
https://musescore.org/en/handbook/parts

In colloquial speech, the words 'Instruments' or 'Parts' may be interchangeable in many contexts; but, with respect to MuseScore dialog names, 'Instruments' and 'Parts' each serve a different function and are not interchangeable.

Regards.
