Why can't I change keyboard shortcut?

• Jun 1, 2018 - 03:12

I'm very new to MuseScore.

I used NWC for long time so I would like to change keyboard shortcuts for note lengths like NWC.
But when I tried to assign 1 for whole note, it says "Shortcut conflicts with Add fret 1 on current string (TAB only)".
And I found the keyboard shortcut for "Add fret 1 on current string (TAB only)" is "1; B".

What do ";" and "," mean in MuseScore's keyboard shortcut?
How can I define shortcut for length as I want?

the ; is a divider between two shortcuts that do the same thing. So that can be entered either using the 1 or the B. If you haven't already fixed it, 1 also defaults to a 64th note. There are problems with shortcuts in different contexts causing problems when you redefine them. The 1 for fret 1 and the 64th note is an example of a definition it is impossible for the user to define, but the program defaults to these shortcuts with no problems.

Thanks for quick answer.

You mean I cannot change some default keyboard shortcut such as note duration, right?

And I found out how I can define multiple shortcuts for same action, which are divided by semicolon, but I'd like to know how to define sequential shortcut which are divided by comma.
Is it possible to define sequential shortcuts by user?

Yes, click define then press up to 4 key combinations then click either add or replace. For example, ctrl+shift+alt+7 is one key combination so you could define a key combination of

ctrl+shift+alt+7, ctrl+I, O, @

if you wanted to. By the way that is what the definition will look like. Commas separate the key combinations.

A example of what I do is, my accidentals are all defined starting with shift+r followed by arrows.

Self answer. I found a solution.

I could change note length shortcut by following steps.
1. Add shortcut 1,1 for whole note and close MuseScore.
2. Open shortcuts.xml with text editor. (For mac user, location is ~/Library/Application Support/MuseScore/MuseScore2/shortcuts.xml)
3. Find 1,1. It will be found like first screenshot.
4. Change it as 2nd screenshot.
5. Change keys for note 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 and 64 because pad-note-64 is using 1.
6. Save file.
7. Launch MuseScore and you can find the shortcuts are changed.

Right, your solution is simpler and works perfectly when the user does not need to work on TAB scores, because he/she cannot assign key 1 back to 'fret 1' for same reason. But if someone wants to change shortcuts while keeping same shortcuts for other actions, my method would be the solution even though it's little bit complicated.
