What do these small, light blue, downward pointing arrows mean?

They are spacers to add more distance between the staves . In the Advanced workspace, see Breaks and Spacers palette: https://musescore.org/en/handbook/breaks-and-spacers
Their effect is only on the layout, not on playback.

Oh I get it. They disappear when I turn off "show unprintable" Thanks!
