Musescore won't start
Hi folks,
When I try to start MuseScore on my HP Elite X2 with 1803 installed nothing happens. The Cursor shows loading for a moment and then nothing. No splash screen or anything. I know some software don't like the high resolution screen on this computer. I tried turning it down though and it wasn't better. I also reinstalled the software and it didn't work.
Any thoughts?
Many thanks,
Hugo

Try to run it from the command line with -F at the end of it to reset to factory settings. See https://musescore.org/en/handbook/revert-factory-settings#2-0--2-0-2 for further instructions if needed.

Hi Mike320,
thanks for answering. Resetting Musescore with -F did not work. I had the identical experience with the cursor loading and then nothing happening. Any other ideas?

The windows (?) firewall must be active.
Check your antivirus permissions.
Have you tried running MuseScore as Administrator?

Hi there, I tried to turn off the firewall and it didn't work. No go on admin as well. Any other ideas?

You could try the -s (no sound) and -w (no Web Access) options

Hi Jojo,
I tried that and it hasn't worked either. Are there any dependencies that could be not working as expected?

Hmm, is your default printer reachable?
Is it a physical printer?
Also try -d and see https://musescore.org/en/handbook/known-incompatibilities#software-inco…

My printer is Microsoft print to .pdf and it is reachable. There are no physical printers on the system. -d did not change the outcome.
I have none of the software installed on the known incompatibilities list.

Then maybe "Microsoft print to .pdf" is the culprit, like 2 other similar programs on the list or know incompatibilities

Microsoft pint to PDF is not the culprit, that's what I've had as my printer for years. Do you by chance have another instance of MuseScore running? Maybe a nightly or portable? One of the portable version I run does this when I have any other version running. If I want that version to run I have to shut down the others then the other portables then the current version.

I went so far as to install a real physical printer and setting it to default to see if that would help. No go sadly. In thinking about it, there are several apps which don't open, interestingly Sibelius 7.5 doesn't work either. Perhaps there is a deeper problem with my OS...

I started having similar issues with Musescore 2.3.2 after updating to W10 1803.
I reverted back to W10 1709 and everything is fine.
Sounds like some kind of incompatibility issue with W10 1803?
