Adding a staff in a choral score
I want to start my piece in unison and expand to 2-part on the refrain. How do I do this?

There is two ways:
1) Create 2 staves from the beginning of the piece. One staff to one of the voices and the other staff to the other voice. This is the simplest way.
2) Use just one staff to both voices. BUT... Here you have to know how to use "voices" in MuseScore. See the HandBook about the item: "Voices".
Also, use Format->Style and check Hide empty staves and uncheck Don't hide empty staves in first system if you only want to see the extra staff when it's needed.
