Sometimes notes become misaligned with the staff, showing on wrong horizontal line
Hi,
Sometimes when moving notes with mouse up and down the notes become misaligned and f.ex. B can seem to be half step higher at the position of C. This has happened to me several times already, making confusing dissonances where there should be none.
Has this happened to anyone else?

This happens if you select the "note head" by accident as opposed to the "note" of which it is part, and start moving it -- it will move in dot space instead of note space. You can get into this state easily by double-clicking on a note-head instead of single-clicking before moving. If it happens, click the "reset" circle-X in the inspector next to "offset".

Selecting notes is quite confusing in general. Sometimes when I'm writing I enter in some kind of mode by accident where I can't do that anymore and need to stumble my way out of it, and I still don't know how that happens. It's very cumbersome and slows me down a lot. This might be related.
For the life of me I can't seem to find that reset-circle-X anywhere in the inspector. Can you (or someone) point it out for me in that picture?

Here -- it's to the right of your picture! There's one for each field in the inspector.

Oh thanks! I only needed to resize the sidebar, silly me! :) Cheers, this helps! I'm happy!

FWIW, moving notes with the mouse is not really a good idea for a number of reasons, too easy to get things wrong. Much easier / faster / more precise to use the keyboard shortcuts.

If you double-click with the mouse, the arrow keys will geography-move instead of music-move, too. It's happened to me (and it is useful, but you must know that that's what's happening). I usually move via arrow-key, but on occasion do mouse them.

Ctrl/Cmd-E is the default shortcut to get you in that Edit mode too, Esc leaves it.

I don't think I've ever used that FWIW (although I've certainly used Edit mode on all kinds of objects from their right-click menus).
With your comment, I would not be surprised if the OP (Original Poster) hit control-E/Cmd-E accidentally; I'm almost certain of it.

The current default, on Windows / QWERTY at least, is Alt+Shift+E - Ctrl/Cmd+E is now (as of MsueScore 3) the shortcut for add expression text. So it's now harder to get into edit mode accidentally this way - accidental double-click remain the more likely method.
I would say in the past I have seldom used the shortcut for edit mode but find myself using it more as I create complex worksheets with overlapping elements, it's maybe the easier way to get an element into edit mode if it's overlapped by something else (Ctrl+click to get to it, the Alt+Shift+E).

What is "expression text"?

It's like staff text, but it defaults to italics below the staff rather than normal above, as per Gould and others. This was added at MuseScore 3, it's actually just a different text style for the same element type.
