Adding tab to existing score
I have an existing score for bass clef instrument and I want to add tablature to it. Based on the help menu, I go to Edit > Add Instrument > and select 5-str. Electric Bass (Tablature). It does add the tab but it is all blank, it only adds empty measures. The same thing happens regardless of what instrument I select under Add Instrument. Does anyone know what my problem is? Thanks!

Add a linked staff, then change that into a tab type

Thanks for the reply. Turns out I didn't realize I had to copy/paste the original staff content to the tab below.

If you add a linked staff to the existing instrument you don't have to copy anything over..

The only available button was Add. Add Staff and Add Linked Staff were grayed out for some reason.

Select the Staff, not the Instrument.
Can you attach here the score you are having problems with?

Here is the file. It also seems to not do the tab correctly when I add it. Like it's all one string or something. The tab is for 5-string bass. Thanks.

Well, that's a Piano, not an instrument you could do Tablature with
Still you can add a linked staff though (but no tablature).
But fiurst change the instrument to a 5 string bass, move down all pitches by an octave, then add a linked staff, then change that to 5 string tablatur. Then fix the volta repeat lists and the play count...

When I started the new score, I didn't see 5 string bass as an instrument option, so I chose 'bass clef' under General instead. I noticed that resulted in creating a Piano. Is there a way to choose a 5-string bass at the start of the score creation? Thanks for all the help!

There sure is, just enter a 5 into the search field of the add instruments dialog

Thanks Jojo. I was able to fix the score in question. But when I tested creating a new score as 5-string bass, then add the tab, sometimes I still only got the option to Add. Is there something that causes Add Staff and Add Linked Staff to be grayed out? I'm uploading a screenshot.

Select the staff on the right hand side of that dialog. MuseScore needs to know which staff to link a staff to.
Similar for a adding a non-linked staff, select the instrument you want to add a staff to, else MuseScore has no idea about your intentions, it is not a mind reader ;-)

If it's an existing score, how do you then re-open the new score wizard?
