How to add a bass staff midway through song?
Hello,
I am creating a sheet music which starts out with only one staff - treble for Vocal lead. Around measure 19, I need to add a choir part to support the lead voice, so I want to make measure 19 have 2 staves: one treble, one base. When I try to edit instrument, it adds the base staff to the ENTIRE music, but I want it only added in the measures I select. Please help me figure out how to do it. Please see attached image for how I want it to look like. Thanks.

Hide empty staves, and hide certain measures (rightclick/measure properties or a 0-width horizontal frame or a white non-transparent rectangle to cover those 1 1/2 measures

How do you make the white rectangle?

I would recommend creating another staff that is hidden when empty. See here https://musescore.org/en/handbook/staff-part-properties. The white rectangle method works but is more effort and is less flexible. But each to their own!

I think you can't hide only half of the measure. I intended to use the rectangle to cover the half of the measure.

Ahh! missed that bit. Note to self: Read the entire thread before leaping in.

That's a good method indeed. I suppose depending on the situation you could instead split the measure at that point (command in Tools / Measures), then hide the barline in other staves.
