Stem Direction

As a project for a class I am currently in, we are writing a hymn style song. I would like my stems to match classic hymn style (soprano facing upwards, alto downwards, tenors upward, and bass downward). However I am unsure how to do so. Currently my stems are connecting both voices on each staff together, and I would rather it not. Is there a way to fix it?
