TIES

The Handbook says only notes of the same pitch can be tied, because that's what a tie is. But you can tie any two durations together, just follow the instructions (eg, enter the first note normally, select the duration you want for the second, press the tie button to automatically enter the note and tie it, or enter the two notes separately then go back to the first and press the button).

It doesn't say same value, it says same pitch.
The duration of the note is irrelevant, only that it is the same pitch.
