Add chord repeat symbol above staff
I see many posts relating to this, but haven't found "final answer." I see the symbol (slash with dots on either side) in the jumps and repeats palette. When I try to insert it, it replaces the notes in the staff instead of appearing above the staff. The other things in this palette appear above the staff ("Fine,"
D.C", etc.). Why not the chord repeat symbol? Am I doing something wrong?

There is none.
See #127376: Simile Mark as Chord Symbol (for either 1-measure, 2-measures, or 4-measures) and #84066: Allow % as chord symbol
That is not a "chord symbol repeat symbol" 0- that is a measure repeat symbol. There is no symbol normally needed to "repeat" a chord symbol - chord symbols are always assumed to remain in effect until the next chord symbol. If you have some particular special reason to need to to indicate this explicitly in some particular case, you can add that symbol above the staff by adding it as text from the Special Characters dialog (press F2 while editing text to display), or via the Symbols palette (press "Z").
