MS3 Hairpins & "playback integrity"
For me, crescendo & decrescendo over sustained notes.... works as notated, or doesn't work, whereupon I just live with it. The latest WIP score is large, so it is frustrating to notate numerous instrument's dynamics & hairpins, only to find it just doesn't sound as I hoped. (Measures 23-25, tied notes) So I started searching the MS3 handbook.
On the Hairpins handbook page, is this statement: "This method of extending or shortening the hairpin maintains playback integrity and allows it to cross line breaks:" Clicking on "playback integrity" (a hyperlink) directs to the Lines handbook page. Following the information, leads to copious descriptions of HOW to do things, but never addresses WHY "playback integrity" can be broken or problematic.
What do I need to do, to get dynamics playback integrity?? Thx.

I can confirm that behavoir, but not explain it (yet)
Deleteing the mf, the p and the harpins and adding them again seems to work

It does, thanks. I looked at the piano roll editor for those measures, I don't see velocity changes, but I don't know how to interpret the PRE.
This seem a reliable way to get functional hairpin dynamic playback:
1) On the instruments / measures desired, establish the dynamics where they should happen ('before_hairpins.png')
2) Click on the start note, then shift-click on the end note. A region is created. Select the desired hairpin from the 'Lines' palette. ('hairpin_step1.png') Notice the insertion of the hairpin is visually bad.
3) Click on the hairpin. Don't mess with its endpoints. All we're doing is selecting it. ('hairpin_step2.png')
4) Press 'Shift' on the keyboard, then one "left-arrow". The hairpin shortens, and is visually OK. The first 4 hairpins in this example are not long, but they work as intended. ('hairpin_step2b.png')
5) Et voila, the whole example with dynamics as desired. When the system re-draws, notice the short hairpins lengthen. Sounds as expected.
