Unable to input an "A-note" with my Mac Book Pro keyboard

I am unable to input an A-note using my MacBook keyboard. Is this a known issue? All other note-inputs work fine using the keyboard. Within a measure the cursor jumps to the start of the measure if I hit the "A"- key.
