dotted notes and rests in tabs

I upgraded from version 3 to 4 and updated 4 to the most recent version 4.0.2. When entering notes in tab, you used to be able to enter rests by using the ";" key. That feature no longer works. I am also not able to add dot note durations using "." How do I add these two features or is something not working correctly?
