No playback on "out of range" notes.
Musescore 4 will not play notes that it determines are "out of range" like this D5 for trombone. (btw D5 is absolutely reasonable for a high level first trombone part) But more importantly, Musescore 3 did not have this problem; it would even play stupid high notes, so I do not know why this problem is occurring in Musescore 4. Admittedly, I do not have the most recent update installed. Is this problem fixed in the current version or do I have to wait for the next version?

This is not a bug, and it is not from MS4 specifically, it's Muse Sounds. Muse Sounds is based on sampling, not synthesizing, so there are simply no samples for out of range notes. Use a soundfont or a VST to get what you want. The old standard is named MS Basic.
If you are not using Muse sounds, idk what to tell you.

How would I change that?

Go into the mixer, MS Basic is under Soundfonts. Always consult the handbook if you're having difficulties.
You can actually play notes out of range with Muse Sounds!
Right click on the staff of the instrument you want to pitch --> Staff/Part properties... --> Usable pitch range (towards bottom)
Click on the pencil icon to edit lowest/highest note. It will give you a chart of octaves. You can pick whichever note you want the range to start or end at.

That would fix the coloring, but not the playback: if the sound doesn't have those pitches, it can't play them,
